Performance Activity (Beethoven – Symphony No. 5)

As a performance activity, students will perform a basic arrangement of ‘Symphony No. 5’. Depending on the array of instruments in a class, an easy arrangement would be written to suit those instruments. The aim is not for students to play the piece note for note, but rather have an opportunity to play through the key ideas (for instance, the famous four note motif). The piece could be transposed to A minor, to simplify the reading too.

Alternatively, instruments such as xylophones and boomwhackers could be used to further simplify the arrangement. The key is to have students having fun and playing!
