As a class, students will notate ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ using aural and rhythmic dictation skills. There are some basic melodic patterns, guitar chords and drum parts throughout the song, that I think students will be able to notate. If students begin to struggle I will help through modelling and demonstrating particular rhythms etc.
The task could either be implemented for the whole class, or students could break off into groups and I could designate particular parts of the song to each group to work out. Depending on the level of students, I could also provide manuscript paper with some parts already notated. This could be used as something students could refer to if they were struggling with their notation.
